Mourinho: City move 'impossible'

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has described as "impossible" more reports linking him with a summer move to the Premier League, this time to Manchester City. The former Chelsea coach was asked about suggestions he might be ready for a move to Eastlands over the summer, but the 48-year-old was quick to stifle the rumours.

"Me to Manchester City? That's impossible," Mourinho told Sky Italia.

The Portuguese was also asked about Cristiano Ronaldo's link to Milan after their owner Silvio Berlusconi publically coveted the forward.

But Mourinho slammed the transfer talk and was adamant that his biggest name would be leaving the Bernabeu any time soon.

"I'm not saying it's impossible, because in football you never know, and (Milan's owner, Silvio) Berlusconi can make a crazy offer," he said.

"But it must be a true madness because Real Madrid don't want to sell Cristiano Ronaldo."

Barca refuse to talk about Real

Barcelona showed respect for Shakhtar Donetsk by refusing to talk about what appears a nailed-on meeting with arch-rivals Real Madrid in the last four of the Champions League.

Wednesday's 5-1 quarter-final first leg win set up the fascinating prospect of four meetings between the Spanish giants in 19 days after Jose Mourinho's men hammered Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in their first leg a day earlier.

Mourinho loses nine-year home record

Jose Mourinho's nine-year, 150-match unbeaten league home record as a manager came to an end after a 1-0 defeat to lowly Sporting Gijon in a poor Liga game at the Santiago Bernabeu. Mourinho, whose record started at Porto and encompassed trophy-laden spells at Chelsea and Internazionale, could hardly believe his eyes, giving a wry smile at the end of a scrappy match that was won by a fine goal from former Atletico Madrid midfielder Miguel de las Cuevas.

A second half hat-trick from Wayne Rooney saw Manchester United come from two goals down to claim a stunning 4-2 win over West Ham in their Premier League clash at Upton Park.

Mark Noble gave West Ham an 11th minute lead with a crisply-dispatched penalty after Patrice Evra had handled in the United box following good work from Carlton Cole.

Roma suitor rates Baldini

The American leading a consortium poised to buy Roma met England general manager Franco Baldini and was so impressed he has sparked media speculation linking the Italian with a role at the Serie A club.

"I didn't know Franco Baldini. He is someone who really knows his football. So I like him a lot," Thomas Di Benedetto was quoted as saying by the ANSA news agency after the pair met in Tuscany as part of his trip to Italy to seal the takeover.

Trio out for Real

Injured trio Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Marcelo are definitely out of Real Madrid's match at home to Sporting Gijon on Saturday and will not return until the following weekend, according to coach Jose Mourinho.

"They will only be able to play in Bilbao," the Portuguese said at a news conference on Friday in reference to the game at Athletic on April 9. "That's the information I have from the medical department."

Awards double for Chelsea

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti and defender David Luiz have clinched the Premier League's manager and player of the month awards for March. Chelsea's centre-back David Luiz, who joined the club from Benfica in January for £21.3 million has enjoyed an outstanding start to his career in the Premier League.

The Brazilian provided added impetus to Chelsea's title push, and scored crucial goals against both Manchester United and Manchester City. Ancelotti receives the award for the second time this season and the third time in his career after guiding the Blues to three consecutive wins, which has propelled the champions into third place in the table.

Baines to replace Clichy

Arsene Wenger has targeted Leighton Baines as a replacement for Gael Clichy at Arsenal as fears over the French left-back's future at the Emirates escalate. The Gunners are worried Clichy will not sign a new deal when he opens discussions at the end of the current campaign so have already started to look elsewhere.

Everton full-back Baines has been identified as the man to fill Clichy's boots, should the France international seek pastures new. But Baines is notoriously homey and extremely settled in the North-West, meaning Wenger would have a tough job trying to persuade him to uproot and move down to London.
